About The Author

One of New Zealand's leading photographers and conservationists, Craig Potton, lives in Nelson in the South Island. He has exhibited in USA and Australia as well as all over New Zealand, and has photographed New Zealand gardens and interiors for House and Garden magazine. Particularly admired for his wilderness landscapes, Craig has travelled, tramped and climbed extensively in New Zealand, its sub-Antarctic Islands, the Dry Valley and Ross Sea areas of Antarctica, Borneo, the Pacific Islands, Iceland, India and the Nepal Himalaya. Offerings from Nepal, published in 1995, is the result of one of these spiritual journeys. Founder and owner of Craig Potton Publishing, he has produced a number of iconic photographic art books, national park handbooks, calendars and photo poster series. Craig has worked on design and special effects for films such as The Lord of the Rings, Peter Pan, Narnia and King Kong.

British-born Lisa Choegyal has made Nepal her home since the 1970s. Having studied art and architectural history in Europe, she worked for 25 years as marketing director of the Tiger Mountain Group, Nepal's pioneer adventure travel operators. She now works as a specialist consultant in pro-poor sustainable tourism throughout Asia and the Pacific. Author of several books on Nepal including South Asia titles of the Insight Guide series and Offerings from Nepal, Lisa Choegyal is a board member of the Nepal Heritage Society, a founding director of the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust, and trustee of a number of conservation organisations. Together with Gautam S.J.B. Rana, their extensive networks in Kathmandu ensured access to previously unpublished private houses and historic buildings.

Gautam S.J.B. Rana, an arbiter of Nepal style, created Baber Mahal Revisited. This highly acclaimed private restoration project houses Kathmandu's first commercial heritage building with a shopping, office and restaurant complex built in traditional Rana style in the grounds of his ancestral palace. Gautam Rana co-authored the definitive The Ranas of Nepal and contributed Dress of the Ranas of Nepal for the 12-volume Berg Encyclopaedia of World Dress and Fashion. He was the first Nepali director of the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust.
